Half way done

Well, I’m half way through student teaching. Eight more weeks and I’m a college graduate. I’m really really excited. I have a four day weekend because Seward High does not have school Friday or Monday, so I’m going to have a lot of relaxation time. I won my second intramural championship when we owned kickball. Believe it or not, kickball is all about strategy. We just started intramural flag football. It is not flag football at all. It’s pretty much full contact. We won our first game and lost our second even though we were up two scores with a minute left last night. It was stupid! Clock stops after EVERY play the last two minutes of the game. So the last two minutes take longer than the first 18 minutes of the half. Anyway, we are 1-1.

I called a bunch of recruits tonight and now I think I’m going out. I’ll try to update again this weekend.

Horrible play + Luck = $$$

After shallow cashing in 4 out of 8 small buy in tourneys on Saturday, I played 11 tourneys today and struck out in the first 9. Then I played in the $6 early daily doubles on full tilt and I ran incredible. I double cashed in them for an unusually high prize of $15. Normally, I thought it was around $10. There were obviously fewer double cashers this tourney. Anyway, I was hoping for the best overall finish until I was knocked out of B in 72nd place. I remember I was down to one big blind in B with like 400 people left and had a huge comeback to an average stack. I really don’t remember any significant hands in either until I was down to about 18 people left in A. This interesting hand came up:

This was the first time this guy ever limped, so I felt that he would not have an Ace in this spot unless it was AA. But I don’t think he limps AA in middle to late position after all the previous raising he had done. So I tried making a play on him and should have taken it down on the flop. But he had other plans. Then I tried making a play on the turn, but he still wouldn’t let me have it. Then I valuetowned the river when it turns out my gin card hits on the river. I’m glad no diamond came. Nice call on the river sir…and flop for that matter.

A little while later, I had these 3 out of 5 hands. I’ll give explanations to try and defend my horrible plays after each.

The last 15 minutes, Brendan had totally changed it up from before the previous hand and just was limping every hand and then folding to a raise. Impatiently on my part, I decide that this is my spot (I suck so bad that I can’t just fold suited connectors). So I try to steal the pot and he tries to represent AA not knowing that his hand is much better than mine haha. I decide to go with it (probably wrongly). I runner runnered him to send him to the rail.

The very next hand this came up. This guy (dinhba86) had been owning me (we were at the same table since late in the first hour if not the entire tourney, I can’t remember). Since we made the money, this guy had been going over the top of my raises EVERY time. He must have done it 6-10 times. This is the only time where I have ever thought to myself that someone is a super user. It seems he knew every time I had a hand and every time I didn’t have a hand. I know he isn’t a super user but man he picked his spots well. Anyway, I had had enough obviously even though I was 3RD in chips and he was 1st. I should have let me ego go and just gave him the pot. Here is the hand:

I have never been owned more playing poker (except probably HU against Dave when he’s trying). I was kicking myself at this point as my comfortable stack should have been gone. Also at this point you would guess that the people at this table are pretty pissed at me because I have the chip lead in the tourney purely because of suckouts. But still, three hands later the main guy that is pissed wants to take his 34 up against my AQ…way to make your stand there.

This gave me the chip by 3 times second place with 13 left. After losing a decent sized pot to start the final table to that stupid dinhba86 (who owned me and would go away) where I was ahead for once, I went back to my old ways of getting it in bad:

I got down to HU against AZUR with I believe a 6:1 chip lead. He grinded to a 2:1 lead. I grinded back and then with another 6:1 lead, I finally put him out with 22 against Q3 all in pf. Board came X2XXX to ship me daily double A. I’m fortunate. I am extremely pumped! I never honestly believed it until to day, but sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
